Universal branch model for the solution of optimal power flows in hybrid AC/DC grids

This paper presents a universal model formulation for solving Optimal Power Flows hybrid AC/DC grids. The prowess of the new is that it (i) provides direct link between AC and DC parts grid allowing entire network within unified frame reference (not sequentially) (ii) can realistically any element power grid, ranging from conventional transmission lines to multiple types interface devices such as Voltage Source Converters (VSC) by introducing additional control variables. formulated in way does not make distinction, mathematical perspective, elements ensuing optimal flow (OPF) problem be solved via model-based optimization solvers programming problem. Simulations carried out using variety non-linear gradient-based AIMMS© on small contrived large realistic test system (modified PEGASE) clearly show par with existing methodologies OPFs both accuracy solution computational efficiency. Meanwhile, simulations series systems scalable stays computationally tractable larger sizes without sacrificing convergence time.
